The Value of Diaspora Engagement: New policy review launched by Reayrtys

Updated: Nov 25

Today we're launching a report that looks at the concept of 'diaspora engagement' and reviews how it is adopted by other Celtic countries adjacent to the Isle of Man, along with Jersey, to help drive economic growth.

The report starts by setting out what policy-makers currently view as ‘diaspora engagement’: Next it reviews how a set of comparator countries, Ireland, Scotland, Wales and Jersey, are currently undertaking diaspora engagement and identifies the benefits they're unlocking, In most cases countries' strategies are focused on achieving economic growth, boosting tourism and attracting people with direct, family or other connections back to the 'home country'.

The report concludes by identifying ways the Isle of Man Government can learn from other countries to use diaspora engagement to boost its own policy goals, from the Island Plan to the Economic and Locate strategy.
